Eating disorders are filled with silence, secrecy, and shame. The quieter one is about their struggles the worse they become. Someone once told me if you want shame to grow you just need to add a little bit of silence, a little bit of comparison, and some isolation and there you have it, a wonderful breeding ground for shame.
This time of year, we are bombarded with messages of how to express our love and adoration for those we care about. There are the traditional candies and chocolates, the cheesy Valentine’s Day cards, balloons, desserts, dinners and more. With so much time and attention focused on how to express love to others on this holiday, it’s easy to put yourself on the backburner and neglect the relationship with the one person who matters most: YOU!
